Description:

This course will outline the importance of building science principles and home performance, including occupant health, safety, comfort, durability of materials, and indoor air quality. This introductory class will demonstrate how these building science principles are fundamental to the house working as a system.

Learning Objectives:

By attending this session, participants will be able to:

  • Identify basic structural components of residential construction
  • Recognize the variety of systems in a home that affect energy usage and health and safety
  • Identify common building science issues including heat transfer, laws of thermodynamics and moisture issues
  • Identify basic mechanical systems and their components
  • Apply appropriate BPI Standards to collected data
  • Prioritize solutions based on building science evaluations
